Brittany Stark, LMT

Licensed Massage Therapist
Brittany graduated from Ohio College of Massotherapy in October of 2015. In addition to meeting new people, she most enjoys educating others; especially on how massage can help their bodies. Of course, most know their own body best, but we don't always listen to it. It's important to her to help everyone understand the ways their body can connect and that sometimes when we hurt in one area it could be caused by an entirely different issue near by. That's why Brittany feels communication is key to understanding an individuals body as well as why and how massage can and will help.

Brittany specializes in Therapeutic Massage, Swedish Massage, Thermal Therapy, and Aromatherapy services such as hand, foot, and facial treatments. She has also mastered the use of therapy tools such as hot and/or cold stones to achieve the best results during therapeutic sessions. Brittany is also certified in Thai massage and is very excited to introduce anyone and everyone interested in experiencing this unique but increasingly popular form of body work.

Charline Kennedy, LMT

Owner & Licensed Massage Therapist

Charline began her massage journey by enrolling at The Cleveland Institute of Medical Massage in March 2011. She graduated in November 2012 and received her Ohio state medical board license in February 2013. After gaining valuable experience while working for various chiropractors and massage practices she was able to branch out and start Essential Kneads Massage Therapy in January 2015.

Since graduation, Charline has studied to become a certified Nurturing the Mother Pregnancy Massage Therapist and is trained in pregnancy, labor, postpartum, and newborn/infant massage. In July 2015 she received her Bare Foot Masters certification and now practices Ashiatsu Bar Therapy. She is also trained in swedish, deep tissue, hot stone therapy, thermal therapy, sports massage, and techniques used for relieving headaches, sinus issues, and TMJD.

After spending nearly 10 years in the accounting/finance field, Charline decided it was time to follow her heart and her hands. Having learned first hand how effective massage can be in the healing of her own injuries she fell in love with the power of touch. She is thankful everyday and couldn't be happier to have been able to pursue her passion and dream of being a massage therapist.

Jennah Davis, LMT

Licensed Massage Therapist

Jennah graduated at the top of her class in the massage therapy program from Hocking College in December 2013. Shortly after graduation, she learned she had a daughter on the way due later that year. After moving back home, she continued to study with the determination to begin her career after she gave birth, knowing how valuable the power of touch can be. After birth, her desire to change lives through massage only increased.

Jennah was blessed to have a knowledgeable professor who was also a chiropractor. Learning the best of both worlds, her in-depth training included deep tissue, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, aromatherapy, hot stone therapy, and pregnancy massage. She plans to continue her education in ashiatsu, reflexology, and manual lymph drainage.

Initially attending college for physical therapy assisting, Jennah didn’t transfer to the massage therapy program until she asked a physical therapist what secondary degree they would want their PTA’s to have. The answer: massage therapy. She didn’t realize that she had spent much of her life giving massages to fellow athletes in high school before events and family members to relax until after she began classes. She was a natural and intuitive in listening to soft tissue response.

Therapeutic Massage

Multiple modalities or techniques can be used in therapeutic massage. A consultation with your therapist before your session will determine your specific needs.

1. Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with hydrating the soft tissue targeted during session.

2. Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body.
Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.

Ashiatsu

Ashiatsu is an ancient art of massage from Asia. The therapist uses her feet to apply deep relaxing strokes and compression that feels exquisite. It is unique in its ability to maintain even and constant pressure to the entire body. Ashiatsu is great for those who participate in sports or have stressful lives.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and re-balance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing neck pain, back pain, and mental stress (among other things). It does this by optimizing the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spine and around the skull. Developed by physician William Sutherland, this therapy provides a very soothing and relaxing healing experience.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your hands and feet. Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression.
